Suburban Hospital's Showcase 2014 will take you back to a vintage, golden era featuring a swanky nightclub environment complete with a VIP reception, cocktails, dinner, live auction, and headline entertainment by inspiring mentalists and two of New York City’s best jazz and big band swing ensembles.
Proceeds from the evening will directly benefit Suburban Hospital’s comprehensive Neuroscience Program, which annually serves more than 2,500 patients from throughout the greater Washington, DC region and beyond. The program includes comprehensive treatment of brain and nervous system disorders, including stroke, brain tumors, spinal cord conditions, aneurisms, traumatic brain injury, and more.
Built in 1938, the Bethesda Blues and Jazz Supper Club and reopened 75 years later as a club and concert venue. On May 8 it will be the venue for Suburban Hospital's Showcase 2014! Walking into the club feels like walking through a time warp, or into a movie. The graceful renovation of this art deco gem seemed the perfect location for our 3rd Showcase. We hope to see you there!
Starting off the evening, 6-piece jazz ensemble Carte Blanche keeps vintage standards white-hot with classic French, Latin and American jazz standards from the 1920s, 30s and 40s.
Dandy Wellington and His Band
Inspired by the Big Band Era of Jazz, Dandy Wellington and his Band have taken the sounds of the 1930's and 40's and created a world of well dressed music. From the golden age of cinema, to the bounce of New Orleans, each song is hand selected and played to perfection by a band cut from the cloth of elegance.
Mentalists Oz Pearlman & Max Major
Mentalism: a combination of magic, psychology, and suggestion to demonstrate the untapped powers of the mind. Amongst the evening’s highlights, Oz and Max will employ uncanny understanding of body language to decode the thoughts of audience members, assume the role of a human lie detector, and create moments of wonder and intrigue.
